Lecture of the Holy Father

What a coincidence. My last post - has it really been three weeks? - cited an ongoing argument in American "conservative" political circles concerning whether one can be a conservative if one does not believe in God. I think the debate can to some extent be framed thusly: some American conservatives doubt that reason without religious faith can lead to sound political philosophy or good political policy.

So along comes His Holiness flatly positing that religious faith without reason cannot lead to sound theology or religious practice.

We are, I think, finally approaching the political/moral/intellectual confluence the West's Great Conversation began to mislay two centuries ago with the ideological idiocy of the French Revolution.
